Digital marketing is promoting a business through online channels: search engines, social platforms, email and messaging, websites and paid ads. In Saudi Arabia nearly everyone is online, so the work is less about reaching people and more about being chosen, in the right language, at the moment they are ready to buy.
This guide covers the channels, what each is good for, the Saudi-specific points that change decisions, and the basics of doing it lawfully and measurably.
What does the Saudi digital market look like?
DataReportal's Digital 2026 report for Saudi Arabia, using data from late 2025, counts 34.4 million internet users, equal to 99.0% of the population of 34.7 million. It counts 38.6 million social media user identities, which is 111% of the population because some people hold several accounts and some identities are not individuals.
Payments are digital too. The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) reported that electronic payments made up 85% of total retail payments in 2025, up from 79% in 2024, with 14.6 billion electronic transactions. The reading for marketers is simple: customers are online, and they are used to paying online. Competition is the constraint.
What are the main digital marketing channels?
| Channel | What it is | Best used for |
|---|---|---|
| Search engine optimisation | Earning unpaid visibility in search results | Steady demand capture from people already looking. See our SEO service |
| Paid search | Ads shown on search results, paid per click | Fast demand capture for services and products people search for |
| Paid social | Ads on Meta platforms, TikTok, Snapchat, LinkedIn | Creating demand and reaching defined audiences |
| Organic social | Posts, video and community management | Building familiarity and handling customer questions. See social media management |
| Content marketing | Articles, guides, video and tools | Answering questions before the sale and supporting SEO. See content writing |
| Email and messaging | Direct messages to people who have opted in | Repeat sales, reminders, follow-up on leads |
| Influencer and creator marketing | Paid or gifted posts from creators | Reach and credibility with specific audiences |
| Marketing automation | Software that sends messages and tracks leads automatically | Following up many leads consistently without manual work |
Which channel should come first?
It depends on the goal and on how fast you need results. Use the table as a starting point, then test with a small budget before committing more.
| Your goal | Start with | Then add |
|---|---|---|
| Sales or leads this month | Paid search on your highest-intent terms | A website that converts, then SEO for lasting traffic |
| Lasting, low-cost enquiries over time | SEO and a Google Business Profile | Content that answers buyer questions |
| A new product nobody searches for yet | Paid social and short video | Search once demand exists |
| Repeat customers | Email or WhatsApp follow-up with consent | Loyalty offers and reviews |
| Credibility with business buyers | A strong company site, LinkedIn and case evidence | Targeted search ads |

What is specific to digital marketing in Saudi Arabia?
Two languages
Arabic and English audiences use different words and platforms. Plan content and keywords for each, not one translated into the other.
Local platforms and payments
Many stores run on Salla or Zid and accept mada. Your ads, landing pages and checkout have to work with those. See Salla and Zid store design.
Maps and local intent
Searches with a place attached are common for services. A complete Google Business Profile often matters more than another blog post.
Messaging as a sales channel
Many customers prefer to ask a question by message before buying. Track WhatsApp clicks as conversions so you can see which channel produced them.
What do the data rules mean for marketing?
Saudi Arabia's Personal Data Protection Law applies when you collect or use personal data for marketing. The Implementing Regulations, as summarised by Clyde & Co in September 2023, require consent before personal data is used for advertising and direct marketing, and a simple way for people to stop receiving marketing at any time. The rules have been subject to consultation since, so confirm the current text with a legal adviser before you build email, SMS or WhatsApp campaigns.
In practice: collect clear consent on forms, keep a record of it, make opting out easy, and collect only what you need.
Which trends are worth acting on?
- AI answers. Google's AI Overviews and AI assistants quote web pages. Pages with clear definitions, direct answers and consistent facts are easier to cite. See Google AI Overviews and Saudi SEO.
- Short video. Short video on TikTok and Instagram is a common route to discovery. See TikTok Shop in Saudi Arabia.
- Automation. Tools that send follow-ups, score leads and route enquiries save time, but only work if the underlying offer, form and consent are right first.
- First-party data. Consented email, phone and purchase data are more dependable than third-party tracking, which browsers and platforms increasingly restrict.
Where should a business start?
- Fix the website's basicsMake sure it loads fast on a phone, has clear services and a visible way to contact you. Marketing sends people here, so it has to work.
- Set up measurementInstall analytics, mark enquiries as key events and track calls and WhatsApp clicks.
- Claim your Google Business ProfileComplete it in both languages.
- Choose one or two channelsBased on your goal and how fast you need results, then add more once the first ones produce data.
- Review monthlyLook at cost per enquiry and quality of enquiry, and move budget accordingly.
